“I didn’t choose art as a career - it chose me!” states Mark Anthony of Mark Anthony Originals. And indeed the Muse chose well in selecting Mark Anthony, a multi-talented native Texan sculptor who, while still in his twenties, produced powerful sculptures with so much life in them they were acclaimed and commissioned across the United States and abroad. He specializes in life-size figures, authentically dressed, of celebrity Stars of our era and historical characters of the Old West.

In working the clay Mark Anthony finds himself, becomes one with his art in a spiritual sense, while his imagination fires up his creation imbuing it with a sense of life. It is this sense of life plus flawless excellence of workmanship that have grabbed the attention of journalists, artist and businessmen in many areas.

News columnist Jon McConal of the Fort Worth Star Telegram in his feature article Dolls are more than perfect says of Mark Anthony’s creations: “... they look realistic. I almost expected them to start answering my questions.”

The sculpture of James Dean in the James Dean Memorial Gallery in his home town of Fairmount, Indiana, was commissioned by David Loehr from Mark Anthony and is on view there today.

Owners of the up-scale Reata Restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas, commissioned Mark Anthony to create life-size figures of Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, as constant diners there to delight their patrons.

Owners of the Mary Martin Memorial Library in Weatherford, Texas, had searched for 5 years for a sculptor worthy of creating the figure of Mary Martin herself. Because she was a local celebrity and many citizens there knew her personally, it had to be perfect and truly life-like. Wisely, they commissioned Mark Anthony, after dining at The Reata and being really impressed by his Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean. When the completed Mary Martin was on show, it received much acclaim, and Max Showalter (an old friend of hers who played Grampa Fred in “16 Candles”) came to view it, he gazed at her for a long time, then shed tears, he was so moved.

While Mark Anthony has sculpted countless smaller pieces and exquisite dolls (his work was on display at the Riki Schaffer Gallery in Pontiac, Michigan), he now specializes in life-size pieces for museums, libraries, businesses, clubs and private collectors. Hollywood celebrities may be commissioned as they appeared in your favorite film. Portrait sculptures of private individuals and family members may also be commissioned, with adequate photography.
